We use an app called Tadpoles, in which teachers upload weekly lesson plans into this app. Parents receive a report daily, which communicates what activities were done during the day with pictures attached. Parents and teachers are also able to message through this app
throughout the day. In addition, teachers send regular newsletters to communicate the weekly learning objectives, at home connection activities, and upcoming dates.
All doors are locked during the school day. We have cameras installed around the building, and you need to be buzzed into the building to enter the school. We also have cameras in all the hallways in the building. In addition to security cameras, we also have a MARCS Radio (Multi-agency Radio Communication System), which is a device that, with a push of a button, immediately dispatches all local officials to the school in the event of an emergency.
We use conflicts between peers and challenging behaviors in a classroom environment as an opportunity to learn and grow. Our goal is to handle situations in the classroom and communicate with parents if any behavior becomes a pattern or the seriousness of the behavior becomes concerning. Teachers at VCP understand that children pushing boundaries and having peer conflict are a normal part of development. VCP Staff is trained to talk with children to navigate conflict by talking through options, providing choices, and having the
child be an active participant in solving the conflict . If there are any concerns in the
classroom, teachers welcome open communication as the parent is a valuable member of the child’s teaching team.
Yes! Children ages 3 through 5 take monthly walking field trips across the street to the
Chagrin Falls Library. We love parent volunteers to help cross the street and participate in the
library field trip. The older classes participate in library skills programs, learning about jobs at
the library, how a book is made, how the library is organized, etc. The younger children
participate in story time with music, read-alouds, and fingerplays. In addition to library field
trips, we take a walking field trip to the popcorn shop to celebrate the end of the school year.
Yes! We love parent volunteers at Valley! In addition to helping with field trips, there are 2
classroom liaisons in every classroom. The classroom liaison plans 3-4 classroom parties
throughout the school year. Parents are encouraged to be secret readers in every classroom
and help during center time in the classroom.
The staff at Valley know that research indicates how vital play is in learning, especially in the
early childhood classroom. Teachers encourage active play for the majority part of the day. In
addition to playing, we have structured teacher time, where students are taught letters, letter
sounds, sight words, creating words through putting letters together, numbers, tally marks,
ten frames, charting, science, social studies, etc. We use interactive computers and science
and social studies curriculum (scholastics) to teach critical academic-based skills. Through the
combination of play and structured learning, the feedback we have received from graduating
families is that their children were more than ready for Kindergarten!
We follow the Chagrin Falls School District Calendar; what’s unique to Valley is we start when
Chagrin starts at the end of August and end at the beginning of June. Many preschools in the
area begin after Labor Day and end before Memorial Day.
